Occupy Christmas They Call It...

While I'm struggling with the whole taking Jesus busking thing... it nevertheless has that shall we say "je ne sais quoi"!

This is indeed a troubling feature among some who have embraced the 'new evangelisation'... when in doubt they haul Jesus out!!

Perhaps some good comes of it...

"Je ne sais pas" either. Jesus is certainly the centrepiece of the Incarnation story. And, let's face it, the American culture (or more correctly cultures depending on what State you live in) is not ours. Still, it was done well and some people seemed to have responded well to it. But ....

I saw a you tube of a similar thing done in the UK.

Unfortunately it runs the risk of the most Blessed Sacrament becoming a prop in a production. I agree there is something deeply troubling about this. The security of the Sacrament springs to mind for one thing.

Sing and speak publicly yes but I am not really in favour of this.

Can't be as bad as this:

A Vicar in Sweden has been dubbed the ‘raving reverend’ by the media for his efforts to combat poor church attendance by introducing dance music and laser lighting.

Vicar Olle Idestrom says the first techno mass held in All Saints Church in Stockholm on Friday night was so popular he had to turn people away, The Sun reports.

Instead of traditional sermons featuring hymns and silent prayers, Mr Idestrom's masses combine all the elements of a rave including thumping electronic beats and laser lighting.

"People say this is exactly what the Church of Sweden needs," Mr Idestrom said.

"We need to develop the services so that we have a service also for people, mainly from the younger generation, who like this kind of music."

Teenage parishioner Ella Schwartz said she didn't have high hope for the techno mass but was pleasantly surprised after attending.

"The church isn't really my kind of thing, but after this, it seems like it is great."

Sorry, Gothmog, but there is nothing new under the sun. The Church of England was running 'rave' church services on these lines back in 1996. It all came to an unfortunate end: http://www.partyvibe.com/forums/clubbing-raving/970-uk-nine-oclock-church-relaunches.html

This is just wrong. It is a misuse of the Blessed Sacrament, and shows appalling lack of theology or any true sense of Christ, for priests. The Eucharist is the summit, the pinnacle of our faith. It is not a commercial product to be used like a magic talisman. I found it offensive.

Not without good reason does Mother Church surround the worship of the Most Blessed Sacrament with conscious dignity and precise rules. I find this video disturbing. It is one thing to have a properly organised Eucharistic Procession, beginning and ending in a church or chapel, where the Blessed Eucharist is carried in procession,by a priest in the prescribed vesture (cope) and, significantly, holding the mosntrance with a humeral veil, preceeded by lights and incense, protected by a canopy, attended by the loving Faithful. Exposing the Sacrament to the gaze of the public in a market-place is NOT a method of evangelisation, let alone pre-evangelisation. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is for those who already believe. These priests should be in the market-place PREACHING the Gospel and thus leading people to faith. If Exposition cannot be done PROPERLY as the Church's liturgical laws insist, it should not be done at all, even in churches and chapels let alone the local shopping-centre.

Amen, Father. You have spoken the truth. These priests should be punished. Their behaviour is blasphemous.
